Croydon’s biggest and best business awards are open for entries after a glittering launch party attended by more than 200 business people.
The fourth annual Croydon Business Excellence Awards in association with Willmott Dixon celebrate the achievements of the borough’s vibrant business community.
Guests at the launch reception, sponsored by Green Network Energy at Renaissance in Croydon on 21st March, heard business and political leaders, as well as the sponsors (pictured above) urge local firms to enter the 2018 awards programme.
Richard Pickett, Head of Legacy at headline sponsor Willmott Dixon, said: “Sponsoring these awards is really exciting because it enables Willmott Dixon to put something back into the Croydon community we work in. My message today is pick up your laptops, prepare your submissions and submit them as soon as possible, because it is a great opportunity to celebrate your businesses and your people.”
Speakers at the launch included Councillor Toni Letts OBE, Mayor of Croydon; Councillor Manju Shahul-Hameed, Croydon Council’s new Cabinet Member for Economy and Jobs; Pietro Di Maria, Chief Commercial Officer of launch sponsor Green Network Energy; Mark Boret, Managing Director of Fleetline, last year’s Business of the Year; and Katharine Glass, Managing Director of White Label Creative, the awards organisers.
There are 14 FREE and easy to enter award categories – including Business of the Year. This year there are also two new categories, including Love Your Local Trader, for shops in district centres across the borough, and Inspirational Young Person of the Year, for enterprising 18 to 25 year olds, both sponsored by Croydon Council. Welcoming the new categories, Councillor Manju Shahul-Hameed, Croydon Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Jobs, said: “There is a lot happening in Croydon in terms of the economy. We as a council are very proud to have such a diverse business community here, and we also have some unique and vibrant district centres across Croydon. So this year we are very pleased to announce that the council will sponsor two awards, including Love Your Local Trader aimed at district centres, and Inspirational Young Person of the Year to encourage young entrepreneurs.”
The launch reception featured an Italian theme, with canapes served by Bagatti’s, the 2017 Best Business for Food and Hospitality, and drinks from Mobile Bar Hire.
Launch sponsor, Green Network Energy, was founded in 2003 by Italian entrepreneurs, including Executive Vice President Sabrina Corbo, who moved with her family and her team to London to set up the UK operation 18 months ago. Pietro Di Maria, Chief Commercial Officer, told launch guests that the floor where the event was being held, is going to be the new UK headquarters of Green Network Energy, employing up to 300 people by 2019.
He said: “We hope we are going to integrate with the Croydon community from both a social and a business perspective. We also hope that the bill you receive in the coming months will be from Green Network Energy. Our company is investing a lot of money to ensure that our UK customers not only get competitive prices, but also the best customer service. Our motto is ‘our customers are our family’ and we hope that you, as our potential customers, will be part of this family, and for us to be part of the Croydon family and its business community.”
Croydon Business Excellence Awards have grown year on year, with the 2017 event attracting a record number of entries and 450 people to the awards ceremony. The highlight of this year’s awards programme, the Gala Dinner and Charity Ball awards ceremony hosted by a celebrity compere at The Grand Sapphire on Thursday, 4th October, promises be the hot ticket of 2018.
As well as Willmott Dixon and Green Network Energy, the awards are sponsored by Allianz Partners, AMP House Serviced Offices, Chequers Contracts Croydon, Connected Space, Croydon Advertiser, London Borough of Croydon, Superdrug, and Sussex Innovation Centre and supported by Costco Croydon, Mobile Bar Hire, and Handelsbanken. There will once again be Awards Ambassadors – business experts – to help mentor new entrants to the programme.
